ABSTRACT 51 biopsies of tibial growing cartilage were performed in children with and without growth disturbances. The biopsy procedure is described. The clinical and roentgenological follow up did not reveal any untoward effects due to the operation. The histological and cyto-enzymological methods used in the study of the biopsies as well as the main results obtained are presented and discussed. In a few cases the effect of a growth stimulating treatment could be studied by means of a repeated biopsy from the opposite leg.
