The Green's function of the Schrödinger equation is used to develop an efficient method for calculating excitonic spectra in d dimensions. The complex dielectric function (including broadening) near the band gap is found by a numerical integration of the exciton equation in real space. Model calculations are presented for the dynamically screened exciton in d = 3, the exciton in an MQW layer (d = 2), and the diamagnetic exciton (d = 1).
