Experimental synthesis demonstrates quantitative generation of Group 4 tetraazide adducts from metal fluorides, highlighting new pathways for high-energy coordination compounds.
Novel adducts of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium tetraazide with N‐donor ligands were obtained in quantitative yields from the corresponding metal fluorides [MF4] by fluoride–azide exchange with Me3SiN3 in acetonitrile solution in the presence of stoichiometric amounts of the corresponding N‐donor ligand. The polyazido adducts [(bpy)Ti(N3)4], [(phen)Ti(N3)4], [(bipy)2Zr(N3)4]2·bpy, and [(bipy)2Hf(N3)4]2·bpy were characterized by vibrational spectroscopy and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction.
