The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) is a tool that has previously been shown to be a valid and reliable assessment of bowel cleanliness during colonoscopy. This scale has been shown to have high interobserver and intraobserver reliability when completed by gastroenterology faculty and fellows-in-training (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC], 0.91; weighted κ, 0.78; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.73–0.84) and has been validated with higher scores correlating with greater polyp detection rates and shorter colonoscope insertion and withdrawal times.
