The photolysis of HI in the presence of C2H3Cl was carried out at room temperature, at various HI/C2H3Cl ratios, at different light intensities, and as a function of total pressure. The following H atom reactions were observed: magnified image Our data yield the following ratios of rate constants: k2/k3 = 28; k2/k4 = 19; and k,2/k5 = 13. As a scavenger for H atoms HI is six times more effective than C2H3Cl. Quantitative data concerning the relative reactivity of vinyl radicals with HI and C2H3Cl were also obtained.
