Literature review uncovers diverse bioactive constituents and multi-target signaling pathways in Rehmannia glutinosa, highlighting its therapeutic potential for inflammatory and oncologic conditions.
In this paper, components with different biological activities and their mechanisms of Rehmannia glutinosa in the last five years were summarized. Eighty active compounds were isolated and identified from different parts of R. glutinosa and its prepared products, including 33 monoterpenoids, 18 phenylethanol glycosides, 7 triterpenoids, 5 flavonoids, and 17 others. The related biological activities were hepatoprotection, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antibacterial, and neuroprotection. Among them, the study found that the anti-inflammatory mechanism of R. glutinosa mainly includes MAPKs, NF- κ B, JAK, PI3K/AKT, and Nrf2 signaling pathways, and its anti-tumor mechanism of action includes regulation of NF- κ B, AKT/mTOR, JAK, Wnt, TGF- β and mitochondrial apoptosis pathways. The active compounds in R. glutinosa and their mechanism of action were reviewed to provide the basis for the development and utilization of active ingredients in R. glutinosa .
