Dibutyryl cyclic 3′,5′-adenosine monophosphate and theophylline increased pituitary TSH secretion in vitro. This stimulation was inhibited completely by L-thyroxine. Epinephrine also increased TSH release, and its effect was augmented by phentolamine, an alphaadrenergic inhibitor, and partially blocked by propranolol, a beta adrenergic inhibitor. It is concluded that a rise in pituitary cyclic 3′,5′- adenosine monophosphate can increase TSH secretion by the pituitary. (Endocrinology84: 758, 1969)
