Experimental study demonstrates dual-mode structural coloration and fluorescence from self-assembled colloidal crystals, highlighting versatile applications in anti-counterfeiting and green printing.
Structural colors have great application prospects in the optical anti-counterfeiting field in recent years. The artificial preparation of colloidal crystals to produce structural colors mainly focuses on the combination of colloidal particles to form periodic structures, producing color effects through interaction with sunlight. Moreover, the colloidal crystal doped with fluorescent substances can achieve combined optical properties. In this article, a method to use PS microspheres with and without fluorescent modification self-assembling at the gas-liquid interface is employed to modulate the structural colors on Si substrate. Then, we realized collective optical properties with a combination of colloidal crystals and fluorescent substances under different light source, including diffractive light abilities and fluorescence. The patterns with a structural color and fluorescence were prepared via a screen printing and self-assembled methods. The patterned films with PL and angular dependence of structural colors were also constructed, which are useful for green printing, anti-counterfeiting and other related fields.
