Response characteristics of two different kinds of guest-host–type liquid-crystal devices were investigated as a function of d/p, where d and p are the liquid-crystal layer thickness and the physical pitch of a nematic-cholesteric mixture, respectively. Multiplexing was examined using a guest-host device containing optimized concentration of a cholesteric giving rise to a minimum response time; a good result was obtained compared with twisted nematic devices with respect to response times by a factor of 3.
