Findings include myalgias, stiffness, weakness, elevated muscle enzymes, electromyographic abnormalities, and histologic changes. Serious muscle involvement is distinctly uncommon and rhabdomyolysis has not been recognized previously as a complication of hypothyroidism. We report a case of renal failure produced by massive muscle necrosis and myoglobinuria in a hypothyroid patient.A 60-year-old white woman presented to Milwaukee County General Hospital in October 1976, with complaints of weakness, anorexia, dysuria for 2 weeks, decreased urine output for 1 week, cold intolerance, and numbness in her feet. She was found to have a...References1. RAMSEY I. Thyroid Disease and Muscle Dysfunction. Chicago: Yearbook Medical Publishers; 1974:126. CrossrefGoogle Scholar2. INGBAR S and WOEBER K.
