Conventional processing techniques have been used to achieve significant improvements in the J c under magnetic field in Ag-clad wires of superconducting Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O. The weak links in the tapes rolled from the wires have been greatly reduced, and an extended plateau regime in the J c -H curve has been observed. J c values of 19000 A/cm 2 at 77 K and 0 T, 13900 A/cm 2 at 77 K and 0.1 T, and 6200 A/cm 2 at 77 K and 1 T have been measured. The high density, excellent grain alignment, and high density of dislocations are responsible for the improved flux pinning and concomitant J c -H characteristics.
