High-pressure x-ray powder diffraction studies of the phase Cs V have been performed between 9.6 and 26.5 GPa at room temperature. The observed diffraction patterns are interpreted equally well by three slightly different structures: P4₂/mbc, Z=8; Pnma, Z=4; Pbcm, Z=4. The proposed structures have in common a sixfold coordination, which suggests a considerable degree of directional bonding in Cs V.
