By the use of the Coulomb wavefunction, the scattering of charged particles by ions is treated in the eikonal approximation. The eikonal is defined in terms of a 'quantum' Coulomb trajectory. At high energies, the result is reduced to the simple Glauber form with a phase factor due to Coulomb distortion. An application of this Coulomb-Glauber approximation is carried out for the 1s to 2s excitation of the He + ions by electron impact.
