Phenobarbital and chlordane, administered in dosage schedules known to induce drug-detoxifying enzymes, increased the concentration ratio of 126I-thyroxine between liver and plasma in rats. Since no effects on plasma binding of thyroxine were observed, it is concluded that these drugs stimulate the hepatocellular factors responsible for the reversible accumulation of thyroxine by liver.
