Systemic administration of dilantin sodium produces a dramatic increase in tensile strength of healing wounds in rats. This is probably a function of increased collagenization, the same basic reaction which accounts for the undesirable side-reaction of gingival hyperplasia in epileptics receiving this drug, although the mechanism is unknown.
