Ferroelectric properties for the copolymers of acrylonitrile and allylcyanide were investigated in a temperature range of 20°C to 180°C. The copolymers containing a certain fraction (35 mol%) of allylcyanide showed a dielectric anomaly with the peak due to the structural change of paracrystal around 120°C, which is above the glass transition temperature (90°C). A sharper X-ray diffraction than that of paracrystal of polyacrylonitrile was observed by annealing. Typical electric displacement (D)-electric field (E) hysteresis in ferroelectrics was observed in the copolymer. The remanent polarization and the coercive field at 105°C were about 700 mC/m2 and 25-30 MV/m, respectively.
