Effects of γ-ray irradiation on Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O y and Bi2-x Pb x Sr2Ca2Cu3O y (x=0.1 and 0.2) superconductors have been studied using a 60Co γ-ray source up to a maximum dose level of 300 Mrads. On irradiation of the undoped variety, a small decrease in its T c value is observed up to a certain dose level after which it has no effect on T c. In the case of lead-doped samples with x=0.1 the irradiation effect is more pronounced (T c decreases from 94 K to 84 K) than where doping of lead is higher, i.e., x=0.2 (T c decreases from 96 K to 90 K), at a 100 Mrad dose level. The experimental results corroborate the X-ray powder diffraction data.
