Fixing of holographic gratings in Bi12SiO20 single crystals has been obtained using a thermal process. The properties of the fixed gratings suggest that the charges responsible have an ionic nature. The study of thermal erasure of the fixed gratings provides a value of 1.44 eV for the activation energy and 0.03 cm2 s−1 for the preexponential factor for diffusion of these charges.
