Planocera gilchristi Jacubowa is a large polyclad worm which occurs between tide marks off the south coast of Africa. It may be kept easily in the laboratory. Our knowledge of the physiology of neuromuscular systems of the triploblastic acoelomates is meagre and Planocera appeared to be a suitable animal for experiment for its nerves may be readily seen by transmitted light, and it quickly recovers from any operative treatment.
