The positive space charge decay time in nitrogen afterglow was determined by the time delay method. Also, the influence of overvoltage on this determination was discussed through the effects of ionic drift, electron collection and acceleration. The time delay method is used for ion and metastable detection thanks to secondary electron emission from the cathode surface.
