Summary The current induced in polyethylene samples by ultraviolet illumination has been measured. Effects were found at 2537Å but not at 3650Å. The observed dependence upon applied voltage does not correspond to the rectifier mechanism usually proposed. The effective resistance of the material is higher than that obtained under high energy irradiation a t the same rate of deposition of energy. The mobile carrier is found to carry a positive charge.
