EXAFS measurements on the Cd and Br K edges are reported for CdBr 2 aqueous solutions at various concentrations and for a hydrated CdBr 2 crystal. A comparative analysis of the Fourier-filtered spectra provides evidence of Cd-Br bonding in solutions throughout the entire concentration range. A quantitative analysis of the spectra is also attempted and suggests that a well organised structure made up of chains of CdBr 4 or CdBr 3 units exists in these solutions.
