This paper describes a new approach for deriving a simple relation between mass attenuation coefficient and X‐ray energy or wavelength. Parameters of the latter have been adjusted to fit all up‐to‐date experimental, interpolated and extrapolated data thus providing means for computing a set of tables covering all values of coefficients usually encountered in applied X‐ray spectroscopy. The accuracy is generally much better than ±5% with respect to the average of well‐established data.
