N‐(Sulfonylmethyl)urethanes, described in the preceding paper1, are converted into N‐nitroso derivatives, RSO2CH2N(NO)CO2C2H5, which are transformed into α‐diazosulfones, RSO2CHN2, by a heterogeneous reaction on alumina. Reaction of α‐diazosulfones with hydrochloric acid leads to α‐chlorosulfones, and with triphenylphosphine to so‐called phosphazines, RSO2CH = N ‐ N = P(C6H5)3. The IR and NMR spectra of α‐diazosulfones are discussed.
