Geospatial mapping study demonstrates comprehensive digital cataloging of municipal drainage infrastructure, highlighting improved remote access and data-driven urban flood risk management.
This work presents a micro-drainage network registry for Goiânia - Brazil, developed to support the city’s drainage master plan and improve municipal water management. Through digitisation, georeferencing, and vectorisation of existing maps, a c spatial database was created and made accessible via WebGIS. A total of 212 maps were vectorised, identifying 57.788 storm drains, 20.221manholes, 975 discharge structures, and 1.641,52 km of conduits distributed across the municipality. The vectorisation process followed a standardised workflow to ensure geometric accuracy and attribute consistency throughout the geographic database. The resulting database was structured in a GIS environment and subsequently integrated into a WebGIS platform, enabling remote access and visualisation of the drainage infrastructure by municipal technicians and planners. This tool supports decision-making for maintenance, expansion, and flood risk management of the urban drainage system. The WebGIS platform enhances institutional transparency and facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration among agencies responsible for urban water management.
