The kinematographic method was applied to study the kinetic properties of the phase boundaries during the ferroelectric transformation in PbTiO3 single crystals and the antiferroelectric transformation in NaNbO3 single crystals.A discussion is given of the various factors which could cause the observed jumplike motion of the phase boundary in both crystals. It was ascertained that the kinetics of the phase boundaries could be dependent on the latent heat of transformation, the degree of supercooling, relaxation of mechanical stresses and also on lattice defects occurring in the crystals.
