The inhibition of growth and attenuation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens by glycine and some factors influencing the rate of attenuation have been discussed (Van Lanen et al., 1952). In the present paper the study has been extended to various other compounds including most of the amino acids to determine their effect upon the growth and virulence of this organism. In addition, comparisons have been made of the growth, serological characteristics, and enzyme activities of virulent and attenuated cultures. A preliminary report presenting some of the results obtained has been published (Van Lanen et al., 1940).
