The influence of the dimethylsulphoxide and its mixtures with the anisole on the KOH‐initiated polymerization of o‐chlorophenyl glycidyl ether is described. Based on the results of correlation analysis, the solubility of the initiator was found to be the main factor determining the value of the reaction rate, while the polarity of the solvent used seems to play a less significant role. A polymerization mechanism in which participation of both the solid and dissolved potassium hydroxide are essential in the initiation step, is proposed.
