To assess the clinical effectiveness of homeopathic medicine for persistent dysfunction and disability following mild traumatic brain injury.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital with 60 patients exhibiting persistent MTBI (mean 2.93 years post-injury, SD 3.1).
Participants were randomly assigned to receive either individualized homeopathic medicine or placebo, with outcomes evaluated across a four-month follow-up (N = 50 completed).
Outcomes were evaluated using the primary subject-rated SRH-MTBI Functional Assessment (Difficulty with Situations Scale, Symptom Rating Scale, and Daily Activities Scale) and the secondary SRH Cognitive-Linguistic Test Battery.
Analysis of covariance identified homeopathic treatment as a significant predictor of improvement on the Difficulty with Situations Scale (P = .009; 95% CI, -.895 to -.15).
Homeopathic treatment significantly improved the Ten Most Common Symptoms of MTBI (P = .027; 95% CI, -.766 to -.048) and produced near-significant gains on the Symptom Rating Scale (P = .058; 95% CI, -.548 to .01).
