Ocimum basilicum L. traditionally used as a condiment by Sephardic Jews, particularly Yemenites, belongs almost exclusively to a linalool-methyl cinnamate type. Using GC/MS as the method of analysis, 63 constituents were identified in the oil of O. basilicum and its water-soluble fraction.
