Alternating copolymers of the N‐substituted maleimides with styrene, propylene, and ethylene have been prepared by reacting the appropriate maleic anhydride copolymer with primary amines in glacial acetic acid. The x‐ray spectra of these alternating copolymers indicate that the N‐substituted maleimide units form the same 31 helix found in the N‐substituted polymaleimides.
