The cyclic peptide toxins of the freshwater cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa can be detected and quantitated by an enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using antibodies raised in rabbits. The antibodies did not cross‐react with peptide toxins from the cyanobacteria Oscillatoria or Anabaena, but gave positive responses in all cases with toxic water bloom samples dominated by M. aeruginosa, collected from lakes and reservoirs.
