Why the study?
Direct oral anticoagulants can cause significant hemorrhagic side effects, and the interactive effects of combining dabigatran with p-glycoprotein inhibitors have raised concern.
Case Report (n=1)
Co-administration of dabigatran and p-glycoprotein inhibitors like verapamil may increase the risk of severe hemorrhagic complications such as spontaneous hemopericardium, even in patients with normal renal function.
May warrant vigilance with dabigatran-verapamil co-use; single case leaves open need for interaction studies.
