Pre-treatment with Abana (500 mg/kg) significantly reduced the ratio of thrombus length to IVC occlusion length compared to control (19.19 vs 68.37, p<0.01) in a rat model of deep venous thrombosis.
Why the study?
Does a poly-ingredient formulation prevent platelet aggregation and deep venous thrombosis in rat models?
Does a poly-ingredient formulation prevent platelet aggregation and deep venous thrombosis in rat models?
Absolute Event Rate: 19.19% vs 68.37%
p-value: p=<0.01
A poly-ingredient formulation demonstrated dose-dependent anti-thrombotic effects in a rat model of deep venous thrombosis.
Abana's anti-thrombotic effects in rats are hypothesis-generating; human trials needed before any clinical consideration.
OBJECTIVE: platelet aggregation and occlusion-induced deep venous thrombosis in rats. METHODS: was evaluated using ADP (Adenosin 5-diphosphate) and adrenaline-induced platelet aggregation models, and anti-thrombotic activity was evaluated against occlusion-induced deep venous thrombosis model in wistar rats. RESULTS: study showed significant and dose-dependent protection against occlusion-induced deep venous thrombosis in rats. CONCLUSION: deep venous thrombosis in rats.

Viswanatha et al. (2012) studied Deep venous thrombosis (n=32). Abana vs. Positive control (0.5% CMC) was evaluated on Ratio of length of thrombus to length of IVC occlusion (p=<0.01). Pre-treatment with Abana (500 mg/kg) significantly reduced the ratio of thrombus length to IVC occlusion length compared to control (19.19 vs 68.37, p<0.01) in a rat model of deep venous thrombosis.
