Narrative review reveals advances in hydrazone-mediated carbon–carbon bond coupling across synthetic platforms, highlighting sustainable alternatives to traditional organometallic reagents.
To enable sustainable carbon–carbon (C–C) bond construction in organic synthesis, our group has developed a novel strategy termed HOME chemistry—hydrazone as organometallic equivalent. Hydrazone, readily prepared from carbonyl or hydroxyl compounds, can act as organometallic surrogates and be intercepted by a variety of electrophiles to forge new C–C bonds. This review summarizes recent advances in hydrazone-based C–C bond formation under both transition-metal catalysis and metal-free conditions over the past decade.
