Kinematic modeling reveals reduced solar collection efficiency from photovoltaic tracking errors in space power stations, highlighting the need for precision attitude control.
SSPS-OMEGA is a large space solar power station to ease the pressure of energy shortage and environmental pollution. In order to study the influence of the tracking error on solar collection, the time-varying solar collection rate combining with motion analysis between subsystems is derived, and two types of tracking error of the photovoltaic array are studied with the consideration of the angle between ecliptic and equator. It is found that the attitude angle changes radically between the three subsystems of SSPS-OMEGA because of the angle between ecliptic and equator. And the tracking errors in both cases reduce the solar collection rate in different ways. It is valuable for the further study on the accurate attitude control system and assembly.
