본 연구는 K-pop 포토카드 수집의 특성을 야구 카드 및 포켓몬 카드 수집과의 비교를 통해 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 레딧과 스레드에서 수집한 451건의 글로벌 팬 담론에 대한 주제 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 카드 수집은 공식적 진정성 추구, 무작위성의 쾌락, 소유를 통한 정체성 확인, 거래를 통한 공동체성 확인이라는 공통점을 공유하는 한편, K-pop 포토카드 수집에서는 유사사회적 친밀성, 최애 시스템, 반투자 윤리, 앨범 주기 기반 수집, 물질성의 특별함, 돌봄 중심 공동체 규범, 의도적 상업성과 참여에 대한 인식이라는 일곱 가지 고유 특성이 나타났다.
