Experimental characterization demonstrates multifunctional luminescent, pseudocapacitive, and antibacterial performance in Pr0.1Ag0.9NbO3−δ ceramic, highlighting its potential for smart devices.
Pr 0.1 Ag 0.9 NbO 3−δ ceramic has attracted extensive attention as a material capable of serving multiple roles simultaneously. This work correlated the luminescence, electrochemical, and antibacterial properties of this ceramic. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis of the Pr 0.1 Ag 0.9 NbO 3−δ ceramic showed the formation of an NbO 6 octahedral structure. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of this ceramic revealed four phase transitions at 317, 436, 528, and 742 K. UV–Visible analysis showed that this ceramic exhibits semiconducting behavior, with direct and indirect band gaps of 3.8 and 2.2 eV, respectively. The excitation spectrum of the Pr 0.1 Ag 0.9 NbO 3−δ ceramic at λ em = 620 nm exhibited several bands in the UV and visible regions. The emission spectrum at λ ex = 240 nm exhibited several bands spanning the blue, greenish-blue, and reddish-orange regions of the visible spectrum. The emission spectrum at λ ex = 456 nm exhibited broad bands in the red region, with weaker bands assigned to the green region. Electrochemical measurements of the Pr 0.1 Ag 0.9 NbO 3−δ ceramic exhibited pseudocapacitive behavior. This ceramic exhibited higher antibacterial activity against Gram-negative than Gram-positive bacteria. These results suggest that Pr 0.1 Ag 0.9 NbO 3−δ is a promising candidate for advanced multifunctional applications in luminescence, energy storage, and antibacterial activity.
