A single case is presented in which the great toe was transferred in one stage to replace an amputated thumb : microvascular techniques were used to anastomose the appropriate vessels. 2. The operative and post-operative complications are described and the final successful result noted. 3. The place of the operation in the future of thumb replacement is briefly discussed.
