An alternative mechanism by which long chain molecules can be degraded by ultrasonic waves is discussed. Only the fundamental mode of vibration of macromolecules is treated mathematically. It is found that the kinetic energy of oscillation is sufficient to break a CC bond in the absence of cavitation.
