A detailed numerical study of the coupled quantum kinetic equations with memory for electron–hole populations and interband polarization induced by an 100 fs short light pulse is performed. The considered model describes the interaction with a LO‐phonon bath. The equations are shown to have stable physical solutions, if collision broadening is self‐consistently taken into account. The completed collision approximation is found to be a good approximation of the fully retarded equations. Ignoring the collision broadening of the particle energy levels in the memory kernel, however, leads to instabilities of the solutions.
