Liquid chromatography/electrospray mass spectrometry with selected-ion monitoring makes possible the visualization and positive identification of a family of isobaric ions from libraries comprising hundreds of peptides. For larger libraries (up to 105 peptides), a given peptide, known to be unique at a given m/z, was detected, but the full characterization of others at other m/z values from the library is mainly limited by LC separation efficiency. However, this approach offers new possibilities to evaluate the completeness of combinatorial libraries.
