The photoredox reaction of Methylene Blue is studied in various organic media containing mixtures of different acrylamides. The ability of these systems to photoinitiale a polymerization is estimated and a general diagram of the elementary reactions involved in this process is built up from experimental results obtained by laser spectroscopy and under continuous illumination. This work constitutes the first step of a study of the photochemical reactions used in holographic recording techniques when the sensitivity of the dye-sensitized initiation process extends to the red and the near-infrared.
