The oscillator strengths or J-values for all transitions of importance from the 3d state of Ca ii have been computed, using wave functions with and without exchange. Each value has been determined by the use of the calculated as well as the observed energies. The J-sum rule is well satisfied by the results with and without exchange if calculated energies are employed. However, the J-values for particular transitions differ considerably. The meaning of the results is considered. The size of the totalJ-value for the 3d- f continuum appears to be even larger than was suggested by earlier work.
