The equilibrium neutron-leakage spectrum at the lunar surface and the neutron capture as a function of depth beneath the surface have been calculated for a number of assumed lunar surface compositions. The leakage spectrum is found to be particularly sensitive to hydrogen abundance; an experiment is accordingly proposed to determine the hydrogen content of the lunar surface by neutron flux measurements near the moon.
