This paper traces the complete development from rest of the flow engendered in a perfectly conducting liquid by the motion of a non‐conducting airfoil. The ultimate flow which is established is not the steady‐state solution of Sears and Resler (1959). In particular, Alfvén waves of order one compared to the thickness ratio τ propagate out to infinity along the magnetic field, eventually causing a slab fluid to move with the airfoil. Careful treatment of a boundary condition on magnetic effects in the fluid is necessary. Slow flow is worked out in detail.
