Converter slag has become an important secondary raw material, which is mainly used in the building industry. Consequently, the knowledge of how the various elements are incorporated into the crystal structures of the solidified converter slags is of great interest. Solidified converter slags are made up of three main mineral components: dicalcium silicate, calcium ferrite and wustite. These three main components are mixed crystals, in which single structural elements are substituted by other ions. In dicalcium silicate, vanadium is bonded in the mixed crystal structure in the form of a tetrahedron [VO4]3-. Likewise in calcium ferrite a [VO4]3- structural element contributes to the formation of the mixed crystal.
