The influence of the electronic part of the polarization of an ionic crystal on the state of an extra electron is considered. The extended polarizable ion lattice model is proposed to account for this influence. In the case of the F‐center in alkali halides the r‐dependent dielectric constant ε(γ) corresponding to the proposed model is shown to differ but little from ε∞ if γ is greater than the nearest neighbours distance.
