The stress induced shift of the indirect gaps and of some direct transitions at different points of the Brillouin zone has been measured from the dependence of electroreflectance and electroabsorption spectra on uniaxial stress parallel and perpendicular c. Macroscopic and microscopic (generalized) deformation potentials have been derived for the corresponding energy gaps. The results are compared with the electron charge distribution of valence band and conduction band states. The spectra show evidence for a splitting of the conduction band at H by stress perpendicular c.
