A study is made of the effect of space-dependent electric fields upon the complex conductivity of a lowpressure ionized gas. The case of a standing wave is considered first and it is found that the diffusion constant for the electrons becomes space dependent. Finally the case of a traveling wave in an infinite ionized medium is studied. For the latter situation, the spatial variation of the field has no effect on the conductivity.
